LAURA’S IDLE CHATTER: A FEW WORDS ON THE ART OF BECOMING A NOVELIST AND A BUNCH OF HOLIDAY PUBLISHING ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Happy late fall to all, and welcome to all my new subscribers and followers! It’s been a while since I’ve written and as always there are lots of new wrinkles to be ironed out here in the land of storytelling for fun and profit. If you’ve been with me for a while you know I left my regular day job in the pursuit of becoming a full-time novelist. Well, suffice it to say, I’ve still had to hold down my government contract side-hustle fairly steadily.
Again, I won’t go all political on you, but as you know the government was shut down for a good while, so this has been a bit of a white-knuckle ride. Alas, in the end, the shutdown did not affect me all that much and gratefully I’ve still been able to chop wood and fetch water here in writersville.
To keep things short, and because I have several publications to share, I’ll get right to the wind-sprint of holiday short stories I’ve written for anthologies as of late. In all, it’s been a busy season creatively, and I am in love with all the stories I’m about to tell you about. They are each slightly different, but are similar in that they are all romances and include my favorite theme: “love conquers all.”
There will be more to come, soon, too. I’m currently working into Valentine’s Day and will have a host of anthologies to tell you about then. For now and as always, I hope this letter finds you well, and I wish all of you a happy and healthy holiday season. Thank you again for subscribing and I’ll see you down the road in the coming weeks!
“They stayed pressed together from the moment they exited the elevator. Oh, they paused not to shock old Mrs. Kelly in 4B exiting to retrieve the day’s mail. But their lips were fused, tongues colliding. The jawbone connected to the facial bone.”
Read more of my spicy romance: “A New York Kind of Holiday” in Midnight, Mischief & Mistletoe: A Steamy Romance Anthology. (contains adult content)
“LAURIE, December 5, 2001, Home Base, 11:56 p.m.
It has become an impossible burden to bear, I think to myself. I think I will explode if Nathan is deployed one more time. The stolen phone calls. This crazy lifestyle.”
Read more of my military romance: “A Holiday Homecoming” in Home for the Holidays: A Christmastime Anthology.
“Daria checked her watch: 10:01 p.m.
She shifted in her seat. The one space off by itself in her friend’s opulent living room.
The party: Tiffany invited her for New Year’s Eve. Chas said he would meet her at 10:00. He was late.
Chas: Someone she’d met online, they’d gathered for coffee a couple times. An investment banker.
Wanted: Companionship. Just keep things casual.”
Read more of my medical student romance: “The New Year’s Black-Tie Affair” in The Greatest Holiday Romance Stories Ever Written.

I did enjoy it though!
Well done Laura! Steamy romance aren't my thing but nevertheless my door is always open!
